Why Mobiles will Dominate

Sourced from the Atlantic Mobile Friday 8th June 2012

Interesting to see how early we are in the Advertising on smart phones but with the high amounts of deceives there are out this. We can see Smart phones being the main way people around the world access the internet compared to the traditional method of computers. Resulting in people being able to receive and create data anywhere in the world, I think it inter activation will have huge impact on years to come.

Another interesting item highlighted here is how people are using their phones. With sending 94mins a day on non-communication activities, which I guess is apps and inbuilt software on the phones. This is a huge amount time. Then on top of that 72mins is on web based activities which does not mean they are not on apps, could be on facebook, twitter and so on.
But what is this all resulting in? Are we experiencing life through a screen? Why are we doing this? How is this effecting design and new products coming out for us to CONSUME on these deceives.

Metro - Window Phones Design

(Creative Review, April 2012, Page 44)

Interesting piece about the design of the Windows Phone operating system which has now expand to windows computers and game consoles. Which might be a good suggestion of how powerful making a successful brand design on a mobile deceive can dominate your whole business.
I thought it was interesting how Windows did not go down the same path of apple as making visual representations of real life objects within their system. (this is something I will shall explore later). Instead they viewed the history of design and applied the most successful parts into the their new but simple operating system.

Facebook App Store

10th May / BBC News

Facebook wanting to keep user on their mobile app by expanding the content within their primary product. We will see examples of apps that sell in game content to the consumer, which I take facebook takes a cut of, allowing a new revenue source for the new public company of facebook. How is this facebook app store going to affect the design and interaction with apps on our phones? What are other companies like google android and Apple going to do to make people stay on their app content?

Here is an example of a game on my Android Smartphone, this is a basic line drawing game which your not allowed to overlap the lines more than twice. As soon as my phone is connected to the internet I am exposed to the advertising in the top part of the screen. For this case it is Wonga loans, which supplies short term loans. I would say this is aimed at young people due to the sponsorship of youth programmes on television but also through the visual language of the kinda naughty granny puppets. But this is example of how advertising is reaching us everyday on our smartphones. I want to explore the semiotics of these advertises but it is affecting how we purchase products and ideas.

How far is this statement true?

Facebook - Pay to post

11th May / BBC News

Think this is an interesting concept, espically as mobile phones users of facebook are unable to see advertising due to the basic content supplied on the viewers screen. This testing of new revenue source is really interesting and be interesting to see how normal people use this. I could see big business bumping up their posts up our feeds but how will normal people use this?

How has digital technology changed the kind of communications you have with your friends, family and co-workers?

Interesting point about we have never got completed attention because we always have the opportunity to do something else due to the portal our smart phones and other deceives create. Getting impulse to check due to the wondering what is happening and if someone is trying to contact you.
I like the point of how this new technology and apps are giving people the voices to tell the world their stories. Maybe I could explore into expands or this like in the Arab Spring.
